Auditions

The Cascadian Chorale affords challenges even to the experienced singer. Although the level of expertise of members is generally high, we still present an opportunity to less experienced singers who are willing to work hard at the skills needed to participate fully in the music. It is a goal of the Chorale to welcome dedicated singers to the joyful art of making music and to help them to be successful. The new singer will find the Chorale to be a very welcoming and supportive community. Our membership spans a wide age range, from recent graduates to retirees. We have frequent post-rehearsal social gatherings as well as concert cast parties. Rehearsals are Monday evenings in Factoria (Bellevue).

Singers interested in auditioning for the chorale may obtain a sampling of the challenges and opportunities that await them by attending our next concert, by browsing the breadth and depth of our repertoire, or by listening to tantalizing examples of our music.

Auditions take approximately twenty minutes per person. As a candidate, you should be prepared to:

  • Demonstrate your vocal range;
  • Demonstrate your aural memory and basic sight-singing skills;
  • Prepare Ravenscroft’s There Were Three Ravens (download), such that you can sing your part with basic harmonic support being supplied on piano;
  • Prepare the first two pages of the “Kyrie eleison” section from Mozart’s Requiem (download), such that you can sing your part unaccompanied.

You'll need the free Adobe Reader (download) to view the scores above.

What voice part do you sing?

Have you sung recently with other choirs, especially local ones?

What have been your most rewarding, particularly recent, singing experiences?

Please tell us the titles and composers of five choral compositions you have most enjoyed learning and singing in the past five years (if applicable).

For success in the Cascadian Chorale, you will need to practice at home and regularly attend all rehearsals. We provide additional resources and training to help you learn to practice effectively, as well as make-up rehearsals in special cases for those who have unexpected conflicts.

Please tell us something about yourself, what areas of musicianship you'd like to develop, and how you have come to the Cascadian Chorale.

Do you have any questions or concerns that you'd like to discuss before scheduling an audition? This information will be sent to the membership coordinators who will contact you.

Practice resources and audition preparation information are located on our Preparing for your Audition page.
