The Bellevue-based Cascadian Chorale continues its 2009-2010 season with “Cascadian Carols,” a festive compendium of secular and sacred carols. Performances are Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina, and Sunday, December 13 at 3:00 pm, at Daniels Recital Hall in Seattle. The Chorale performs under the baton of Artistic Director Gary Cannon and is accompanied by Jerrod Wendland.
“Cascadian Carols” draws upon the rich musical tradition of the carol, including both traditional and modern arrangements. This enchanting collection echoes the sentiment of the season, painting vocal portraits of Christmases past and present.
Some concert highlights include: Local composer, Linda Gingrich’s arrangement of the classic French carol, "Angels We Have Heard on High." Francis Poulenc’s "O Magnum Mysterium," the first of his "Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël” (Four Motets for Christmastime). Steven Heitzeg’s “little tree,” a recent work on text by E.E. Cummings, a delicate, delightful, child-like poem portraying a small boy telling a tree in the forest how exciting it will be to become the family Christmas tree. Bern Herbolsheimer’s arrangement of “Stille Nacht,” commissioned by the Cascadian Chorale in 2000. Solo works will be performed by Barb Fraley – Soprano, Tara O'Brien Pride – Alto, and Trevor Tsang – Baritone.
