Concert Season 2002-2003The Art of Making ArtThe Chorale’s 20-voice chamber choir, Cascadian Singers, kicks off our 38th season with a peek into the world of creating and performing great choral music, set in one of the Eastside’s most intriguing new performance venues. This unique performance includes a live dress rehearsal for the public and a hosted pre- and post-concert reception to meet the Director, fellow audience and ensemble members. Seattle Turns 150: Sesquicentennial ConcertWith the Seattle Choral Company This special celebratory performance in Benaroya Hall features sections of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony and the world premiere of William Hawley’s Seattle, a commissioned work based on the famous 1854 Treaty Oration of Chief Seattle. This exciting collaboration in the Northwest’s premiere concert hall is sure to thrill audience and singers alike. Vivaldi’s masterpiece is paired with a festival of Yuletide carols as the full chorale and
the Cascadian Chamber Orchestra bring the glory of the holiday season to new life.
Special highlights include two works by composer-in-residence
Great poetry has inspired the world’s musicians for eons, from Ancient Greece to the current day.
Now the Cascadian Singers transform timeless verses, bringing new expression to the works of
Shakespeare, George Herbert, William Blake and others.
Hear these deathless words in sublime settings composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Tavener,
and Cascadian composer-in-residence 
Our season continues with the full Chorale
performing a diverting survey of music about the five senses.
Through the veil of choral sound we explore new impressions of color, the pleasures of food, and the nature and idea of “taste.”
Encounter the scintillating “blue” of Stanford’s Blue Bird,
the arousing “aroma” of Chilcott’s Fragments from his dish,
and the gentle stillness of Delius’ Two Aquarelles as we plumb music’s
ability to communicate and elevate experience.
The evening will culminate in the world premiere of the latest Cascadian Commission --
a sensuous new work written by

Proceeds from this event make it possible for the Cascadian Chorale to pursue its exciting season
of dramatic performances and youth partnerships.
Our season concludes with Brahms’ stirring Ein Deutsches Requiem paired
with American composer Samuel Barber's luminous works Agnus Dei
and his rarely performed gem, Knoxville: Summer of 1915.
The Chorale will once again be joined by the Cascadian Orchestra to rediscover the essence
of life through music of the spirit.
