A German Christmas
No one celebrates the majesty of Christmas quite like the Germans. We will explore the broad history of German sacred music, featuring Bach’s extended motet Singet dem Herrn. Hugo Distler represents the twentieth century with his work on the same text. And there are Renaissance works as well, especially the Magnificat of Hieronymus Praetorius, complete with interpolations of contemporary carols as directed by the composer. Come to hear four centuries of magnificent German choral music.
