Singing Together
Music has the power to build community, and this concert celebrates that power through shared song. In troubled times, singing can reassure us all with messages of joy, hope, comfort… and of delight. Composer-in-Residence John Muehleisen’s Eat Your Vegetables! playfully admonishes us with a march, a jazz trumpet ballad, Japanese koto, flamenco, and even a cheerleading routine. The late Bern Herbolsheimer, a longtime friend of Cascadian Chorale, contributes a cycle set to texts from a sixteenth-century comedic play. Joined by clarinet, trumpet, piano, and percussion, we close with Leonard Bernstein’s vision of a raucous party hosted by Thomas Jefferson.
